Toogoolawah Pictures - Alexandra Hall

Toogoolawah Progress Association history dates back to the early 1900’s. These types of groups were formed to improve town services and facilities back then and it was not uncommon for every town to have one. Our association started this way and with a lot of history omitted (until it is sorted and with no discredit to past committees), but we can say the community have enjoyed the pictures in the Alexandra Hall right back to the 1920’s pictures when they were held several nights a week. This page will start off with the current group who has been operating since about 1987. The committee are all volunteers and the association is not for profit with all funds going back in to the hall. The Toogoolawah & District Progress Association owns and operates the Alexandra Hall in Toogoolawah and derives vital income from hall rental and the Toogoolawah Pictures. The hall is a valuable piece of Toogoolawah’s history and the Pictures provide the only regular social entertainment for families and individuals for the district. While the Pictures are attended by all ages, this activity affords many families and teenagers a night out, where the cost of travel and admission to urban cinemas would be prohibitive. In 2014r we enter a new phase for the Pictures with the introduction of 2D Digital Cinema Projection and Surround Sound. Up until now we have been using 35mm projection equipment and carbon arc lighting – probably the last burners to be used in Australia, so we are a little unique. The Toogoolawah Pictures is an iconic gem of our region, with its canvas sling back seats and country charm. When you’re in town, come and visit us one night, the atmosphere is casual and friendly and we are sure you will enjoy the experience.
