Somerset’s heritage tells a tale of adventure, exploration, love and war that dates back to the early 19th century. Unlike some areas, Somerset’s significant heritage and cultural history remains well preserved for reflection by today’s society.

As you weave your way through the many towns and villages, follow the Brisbane Valley Heritage Trail and venture through historic buildings including the grand Bellevue Homestead or the beautifully restored Nestlé condensed milk factory packing shed, known as the Somerset Regional Art Gallery – The Condensery.

Watts Bridge Memorial Airfield is another for the history enthusiast – their runways and associated infrastructure were originally built in 1942 as part of the Australian World War II defence program. When the airfield was no longer required by the military, a small group of recreational pilots redeveloped the site into today’s airfield.

The Brisbane Valley Heritage Trail is a drive route between Yarraman and Fernvale offering amateur historians points of interest to visit along a pleasant 160km drive. Just follow the route markers.
