Get Trailblazing!

26/02/2019 Written by itstheadmin
Have you made a new year’s resolution to be fit and healthy?

The Fernvale to Lowood section of the Brisbane Valley Rail Trail is a great place to kick start your fitness, keeping you on track to achieve your health goals.

This section of the Brisbane Valley Rail Trail is 8km and is suitable for people of all ages and fitness levels. Its easy grade surface makes it perfect for walking, cycling or horse riding. If you want to introduce your child to an outdoor adventure experience, the Fernvale to Lowood section is the perfect place to start. The trail is well signed from Fernvale Memorial Park (next to Fernvale Visitor Information Centre) through to Clock Park at Lowood.

While you can start your adventure at any time of the day, dawn in Fernvale is truly a feast for the senses. Start your journey at Fernvale Memorial Park while listening to Lorikeets, Galahs, Corellas, Cockatoos, Kookaburras, Magpies, Butcher Birds, Crows and Peewees as they greet the morning sun. Smell the aroma of coffee and fresh baked goods from cafés and the bakery filling the morning air.

Along the way you will cross Ferny Gully, walk under natural canopies of Australian bushland, and see the Brisbane River as it winds its way down from the dam wall at Lake Wivenhoe, past Lowood towards Fernvale.

When you arrive at Lowood, stop in at one of the cafés or their bakery for a well-earned treat.

FACILITIES

There are no public amenites along the trail between Fernvale and Lowood. Public toilets are located at Fernvale Memorial Park and also at Clock Park, Lowood. There is a water filling station outside the Fernvale Visitor Information Centre. If you need to take a break, there is a shelter about 500 metres past Brouff Road along the trail.

WE RECOMMEND
  • Planning your trip
  • Wear comfortable shoes, sunscreen, a hat
  • Bring a waterbottle
  • Bring your smartphone or camera
  • Check out Fernvale Murals, the river rescue boat monument and Lowood Railway Station
  • Grab a Brisbane Valley Rail Trail brochure from Fernvale Visitor Information Centre and plan your next Brisbane Valley Rail Trail adventure
