Experience Jimna Base Camp

06/06/2018 Written by itstheadmin
We sat down with Jimna Base Camp owners, Robyn and Ross of Jimna Queensland, to chat about their walk on the wild side.

They say the city can be a jungle. Workers running from meeting to meeting, like monkeys swinging from trees, deadlines creeping up, like cheetahs stalking their prey and bosses roaring like lions. The city is a wild place, but in the town of Jimna in South East Queensland, you can find a different kind of wild. There’s a rugged landscape perfect for adventure seekers. There’s bushland and tranquillity that offers the promise of open spaces, a natural playground and the chance to experience the raw Australian wilderness. There’s the promise of freedom that you can only find in the wilderness and this is what inspired Robyn and Ross to walk on the wild side and open the Jimna Base Camp. We sat down with the couple to discuss their passion for their own little piece of Australian wilderness.

DESCRIBE JIMNA BASE CAMP

Jimna Base Camp is a camping, recreation and tourist park located at the northern end of Somerset, in South East Queensland.

WHAT MAKES JIMNA BASE CAMP UNIQUE?

In this day and age, with our growing population, there are houses and developments popping up everywhere. There aren’t many places left close to Brisbane, where you can go and experience the freedom and natural beauty of the Australian wilderness. Because our visitors can hire out the entire venue, they have exclusive use of all the facilities and can really settle in and make the place feel like their own. They don’t have to share the site with others so it offers a level of privacy that you can’t get elsewhere. Our visitors feel a sense of privacy and freedom, which is truly unique to Jimna Base Camp.

WHAT CAN VISITORS EXPERIENCE AT JIMNA BASE CAMP?

For our visitors the opportunities are endless; camping, four-wheel driving, hiking, mountain biking, bush walking, bird watching, koala spotting and the list goes on. Our facilities are suited to holding training or conference retreats, weddings, large group holidays, family reunions, you name it. As it says on our welcome sign, it’s a place you come to have “a wild time or a quiet time”. We’ve got a range of facilities including a recreation building, a four bedroom house, tennis and basketball courts and we supply the sports equipment, an oval with a cricket pitch, a hall, amenities and more. Our visitors can experience all the best things our wilderness has to offer and can truly take a walk on the wild side at Jimna Base Camp.

WHAT IS THE BEST THING ABOUT JIMNA BASE CAMP?

Without a doubt, the best part of the Jimna Base Camp is the feeling of freedom, peace and serenity which is synonymous with the Australian bushland. We fell in love with the rugged beauty of the property and love sharing our little piece of rural heaven with our visitors.

WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO OPEN JIMNA BASE CAMP?

Originally, we both hale from country towns, but as life progressed, our careers lead us to the city. After years of running successful businesses in city locations, we felt it was time to slow down a notch and return to our country roots. We fell in love with the town of Jimna and when an opportunity arose, we opened Jimna Base Camp. We loved the wilderness and bushland so much, that we wanted to be able to share that with people. Having lived in big cities and understanding the daily hustle and bustle that comes along with city life, we wanted to be able to offer our visitors an experience which is all about peace, quiet, privacy and open spaces.

WHY DO YOU LOVE SOMERSET?

We love the rural aspects of Somerset and the beautiful towns in the region. Every town tells its own story and we especially love Jimna. Jimna is unique in that it has retained its historical character which is reminiscent of early Australian country towns. Jimna offers all of its residents with the sense of peace and tranquillity that you only get in the Australian bush. The town is surrounded in beautiful wilderness, which is rare in this day and age. It showcases Australia’s rugged bushland and is so conveniently located just two hours from Brisbane.
