WHAT’S IN A NAME
The building was not always a cultural hub for Somerset, its original purpose was to create and distribute condensed milk to places like Ipswich and Brisbane in a time when fresh milk would spoil on the road easily. The building you see today was first built in 1898 by a local family who still reside in the area today. This factory provided jobs to those willing to travel and settle in the area which eventually lead to the town being built. To honour its heritage the art gallery was named the Somerset Regional Art Gallery – The Condensery.
